Chris, quoting an unnamed ex Korean missionary who said, "All who should come out have come out" Does not somehow have a ring of authority about it.
Come on, that's nonsense. It was not an authoritative statement. It was simply how she thought about the situation in our chapter (which is somhow similar in all of UBF), and I thought it was worth sharing her impression. I had similar thoughts when I saw how most members of my chapter followed Kaleb Hong and did not listen to their conscience.
The missionary who said this was no authority at all, a simple low-ranking missionary who was abused in UBF and is now shunned by her former co-workers after leaving.
The fact was that in the years 2000-2002, so much was revealed about the evil side of UBF, and even worse, so much was revealed about the unwillingness of the leaders to admit and change anything of this, but to cover up and lie, that anybody with some sort of conscience or capability of sound reasoning should have left already. Those who stayed had really seared their conscience or consolidated an even more extrem cult mind set than before.
(I do not say that current members are not able to think rationally. However, in a cult, this ability is kind of blocked or debilitated, whenever it comes to thinking about issues that have to do with the cult. In these areas, they replace sound reasoning by something they believe to be "faith," but actually it is simply bondage to the group. So they have big blind spots in their thinking, or, with another picture, their thinking is framed in a narrow cage. As soon as they leave, they are able to regain their former ability to think outside of the box.)
