Subject: Toledo UBF Prepares For TV Report
In reply to: Robert 's message, "Re: UBF Toledo" on 23:37:54 04/13/05 Wed

Excerpt from Sunday's Toledo UBF message.

"Look at verses 1-3a. "It was about this time that King Herod arrested some who belonged to the church, intending to persecute them. He had James, the brother of John, put to death with the sword. When he saw that this pleased the Jews, he proceeded to seize Peter also." This King Herod was the king of Judea, the grandson of Herod the Great and cousin of Herod the Tetrarch. Like the other kings of Herod’s line, this Herod was not the least interested in spiritual matters. When he arrested some Christians and had James put to death, he became the object of the Jews’ flattery. To him, it was not a matter of truth, or of what pleased God. Instead, it was a way to gain political capital. The same is true in our generation. The media often don’t care about the truth, and only appeal to peoples’ fears and prejudices. Sometimes, persecution just comes. Surely, however, it is the work of the devil. The devil was using King Herod’s desire for popularity as his weapon against the church of God’s Son."

With the TV report about Toledo UBF upcoming, the message discusses the media in a negative light. The paragraph begins with a discussion of King Herod's murder of James. The murder is described as being for political gain and not for any crime. Then, the media is given as a modern day example of those who makes decisions based upon political gain. The media is portrayed as only appealing to fear and prejudice. Thus, the media persecutes innocent groups because they can profit.

Translation: UBF is being persecuted by the media. The upcoming television report is only playing to fears and prejudice and is not concerned with the truth. Moreover, the television report about UBF is the work of the devil.

Toledo UBF appears to be building up their internal defense of their ministry in hopes that none of the young sheep stray. Toledo UBF leaders must be very concerned about the contents of this report. Of course, UBF leaders continue to pass the blame to others. If it is not the bitter, angry, unChristian former members, it is the fear-mongering and prejudice media.
