Anonymous Toledo UBF person, most of us have been in your position at one time or another, outraged that someone would think badly of "God's work" and tell the news media, and the whole world seemingly, about it. We know the hurt, the embarrassment when others suspected that we were in a cult. Our loyalty to UBF was total, like yours, and everyone who left UBF and then criticized UBF was a liar, even those that we "co-worked" with and called "friends" for years. Maybe we weren't robots then, but we were certainly not capable of having a fruitful discussion about UBF, not when we couldn't even tell a basic, obvious truth such as "Yes, we do practice arranged marriage in UBF", or "No, UBF is not a church like any other church."
The fact is (as I've heard it), a long time member of Toledo UBF who left not long ago, someone you used to call "coworker" and "friend", alerted the TV station. Desiree doesn't deserve your abuse; actually, no one does. If you consider this tribulation for your group to be "persecution" (as you no doubt do in your sogams), then "rejoice in it." But the fact that you chose to lash out at someone who has suffered a great deal due to UBF involvement and is suffering now due to an illness in her family reveals your own vengefulness and the troubled spirit of one who defends a lie.
As long as UBF remains in denial about itself, as the most recent TV report illustrates to us, you are guaranteed to feel the same outrage, hurt and embarrassment as your group gets exposed again and again, because we are not going away.
