I got a book for Christmas from a friend titled, A Grace Disguised; How the Soul Grows Through Loss, by Gerald L. Sittser. It's a really good, honest book about a man who in one day lost his Mother, wife and child in a car accident. He talks about his lost but also reveals God's grace and strength within.
I think many people in ubf had a lot of painful losses in their life based on their sogams they read to the whole group. The way they dealt with those painful losses was hiding behind ubf and legalism instead of accepting God's grace, love and acceptance despite what they've been through. It's God's kindness that leads us to repentance and change, and we can't repent and change unless we deal honestly with our painful losses and acceept God's love of us as we are-hurt, broken and at times confused.
It's not easy, it really, really hurts-so much that it's hard to keep going at times, but that's why as Christians we need each other to love and encourage each other in garce and truth.
