What is the X in XMAS? Short Hand: The idea of using ‘X’ in place of Christ is not a modern idea. In the Modern Roman Alphabet, the first letter of the word ‘Christ’ is ‘chi’ which is represented by a symbol similar to the letter ‘X’.

If so, the "Chi" is a Greek letter, but it doesn't diminish that one ;) It should be transcribed as "ch" not as "x" though ;)

But anyway, I read from more than one source (could be untrue?) that X-Mas was an American invention due to the " separation of state and Church", some people who were not Christian felt offended by having a Christian holiday, so they allegedly took the more "neutral" form, which really replaces "Christ" with the neutral "X".

Nonetheless, it doesn't really matter to us. We should just think of our dear Lord and Saviour, and then we can enjoy the real meaning of that holiday, regardless of whether it's the Jul-Feast, X-Mas or Christmas.

As long as our hearts are in the right place, let it be called no matter what.

I'm just happy I don't have to attend the standard UBF Christmas drama this year, hearing once again the same fiction of how the 3 Kings were wannabe professors at the local campus and the real Christ the UBF...

In Christ,
Mike K.
