Hi Chris;

There are really no words to describe the horror of this tragedy.

Keith and I are donating to UNICEF. Our reason for giving to them over the RED CROSS is simple. The RED CROSS will accept money but they cannot assure anyone that the funds will go directly to Asia. They might send a portion to those affected in Asia, or they might send it to some other area of their choosing. (Especially when they receive millions for 1 area)

In the 1990's we got burned big time. We (North Carolina) had been though Hurricane Fran. The RED CROSS took in big bucks for the areas affected, but gave a large portion of the money to other countries.

Please don't misunderstand me. I am not opposed to helping anyone in need. But when an organization represents themselves in collecting money for 1 special cause, I want to be confident that the funds go where they are intended. I know you can give money to the RED CROSS and they give you a card to designate where the funds go, but behind the closed doors...

Call me cynical, but I know folks who work in China for UNICEF and they have told me on more than 1 occasion how they operate. I am certain that when I give money to them, it goes to the folks it is intended for.

Happy New Year, and I encourage all reader's to give as much as you can. The needs are overwhelming. Desi
