That's a good point. Also, I think UBF confuses alot of the criticism people have for it with condemnation.

Absolutely. They say "Those people out there are just trying to condemn us, but we have freedom in Christ, we are freed from condemnation", an easy way to brush off criticism.

It's hard for most human beings on this planet to not take criticism as an affront, it seems. Some take offense, some feel offended, but very few take it at face value: an opportunity to improve.

It's interesting on how in my current environment, I have to deal with people who have a "Criticism is from the Devil" (even written!) rule, which really makes it nearly impossible and totally frustrating to talk to these people about things that aren't okay.

While somehow criticism clearly can be fruitful and condemnation is usually destructive in nature, it's usually the people who are most offended by criticism that will answer with a condemning statement to brush the critique off.

It's sad, though so human.
"Test everything, keeping that which is good", said the Apostle: and of course, that implies "Form your opinion and criticize that which isn't okay".

In Christ,
Mike K.
