The short answer is that the leaders knew what was best for you. Therefore, you shouldn't question them because questioning them was like questioning God.

Parallels are drawn between Abasalom and David (Abasalom stirred up dissension.) The verse "make your leaders job a joy" is used quite a bit as well as all manner of verses with a theme of trust.

The idea was that a leader was trustworthy because they had your best interest at heart. This was also the excuse used when things didn't work out.

This is again completely the same as in UBF.

I remember I was a little bit "rebellish" in the first year. I always said "no" when they pushed me. Then they said it was unspiritual to say and it troubled the leader who already had enough troubles. So, from then on I always said "yes" in order to not make the poor man more troubles than he already had. I also believed I was much more spiritual when I always said "yes."

The use of loaded language is also very similar. They take a word from the Bible, like "kingdom", give it a different meaning or connotation, and then, whenever you read the Bible with this connotation in mind, it gets a completely new meaning. It the Bible says "seek first the kingom," you understand it as "ICC has first priority." In UBF, they did a similar thing with the word "calling." It was given the meaning of "being a UBF shepherd." There are many Bible verses with the word calling, they usually refer to the calling as a child of God and have nothing to do with mission. But when you read these verses in UBF, they get a completely different meaning.
