I was thinking more along the lines of psychological background. After all, the UBF "trainers" use the same basic tactics that they used on Bill for every other desirable recruit. Yet, the tactics seem to fail at some point for most recruits. So why does the SOT program succeed at all for Bill and others, when it's clearly manipulative and abusive? Is it low self-esteem, an under-developed sense of right and wrong, the type of home that the recruit grew up in, etc? Does Steve Hassan write about this sort of thing?
