Dear Priscilla,

I'm sorry for your pain. At this time I hope you can look to God and read the story of the prodigal son. Like the prodigal son you must let your son go with kindness and love, because he will do what he wants regardless of what you want for him. Try to think of how the father responded to his son both when he left and when he returned. That is how you should behave. Do not try to force him to leave, this will backfire. Also do not worry or panic in front of him but do show your concern. Pray each day that God may protect him and lead him to a better church. Pray that God may enable him to speak up when wrong is done. Pray that God may help him truly grow in Christ's image and may either leave for a better church or make a big impact to change UBF ways. Support him with your mother's love. Let him you, don't agree with UBF but that his choice will never end your love for him.

I agree with Gadfly, as long as you are around to make sure he's not being hurt, nothing will happen to him. Stay involved in his life. It doesn't mean you have to join UBF. But it may require showing up once in a while to check on what's going on. Talk to his "Shepherd" about your concerns and why you disagree. My mother tried this and gave my shepherd a hard time. Of which my shepherd would let me know but he never asked me to abandon my mother. My shepherd was nicer and felt he had to explain them to his best ability. If a parent did not accept this he resigned helping the parent and would just concentrate on me understanding what he meant. Other shepherds may ask your son to move out of your home depending on how anti-ubf you get. But hopefully your love and shinning example may overpower the bad influence and pull of UBF. I think if you exhibit more love, compassion and patience you will see your son delivered.
