A very important thing in understanding UBF abuse is that they treat people differently, depending on how susceptible they are for the idea that the leader is the servant of God, or better, that the leader is God's representative for that person, the "visible God." If you haven't swallowed that pill yet, they treat you very differently. They know they have no leverage on you to force you into doing anything. But as soon as you swallowed that teaching, they have a strong leverage. From now on, disobeying leaders means disobeying God means eternal condemnation, and obeying leaders means God's blessing and salvation. This is a very strong leverage, even stronger than the leverage they sometimes use when they arrange and dearrange marriages or play with you by giving or withholding recognition or other things such as public humiliation and group pressure.
