Get out while you can. Since UBF conferences are prime time for serious spiritual abuse, UBF conferences are also excellent times to depart and say good-bye to this fringe sect (cult). UBF cultists understand the abusive nature of the conferences so they expect people to leave. So talk it over with your parents. Explain your concerns about the group. And just leave. I would like to propose several exit strategies based on timing. They are the following:

1. Leave before the Conference even Begins. Your shepherd or UBF missionary hounds (pressures)you to get in the car/bus to go to the conference. They may have paid your way. They may have forced you to quit your summer job to attend the MSU SBC. They may have tried over and over again to convince you that the conference is like heaven. These should be red flags telling you to get out ASAP. Don't be convinced. Don't go.

2. Leave during the Conference. Even if they convinced you to go, when you get there you can still leave, even if someone is following you around all the time. Even though they have tried to isolate you at home, now they will certainly saturate you with flattery and love bombing. They will try to occupy most of your time and will lead you here and there. You will be expected to understand and even enjoy the stale old program of LeeBF messages, like the rest, but with an uncomfortable feeling. So if you brought your car, just pray about it, say good-bye and leave. If they have trapped you into getting there by tour bus or other means, then call your folks and get a ride or even buy a bus ticket at the Lansing, MI bus terminal.

3. Leave after the Conference. OK, so you couldn't leave for some reason already. Maybe they told you that your salvation depended on attending the conference. Or maybe you didn't want offend anyone. Soon as the Conference is over, just leave. You attended the conference. You saw what was going on and you realized that UBF is not for you. If you were caught up in a fleeting (and highly contrived)conference high you know that normal, isolated UBF life is also not healthy or godly. So soon as you return, find a way to leave.

Also contact some one who has been there, like you, and can councel you about your decision of faith to leave UBF. Many former members are listed on this website would gladly answer any questions or help you in your new resolve to break free. When exitting try to touch base with other healthy and godly Christian churches or individuals that you know. Talk to your parents.
