[About Marriages in UBF:] >> They had a preparation committee
and made personal decisions.

Joe, with "preparation committee," Brian probably means the people who organize the UBF wedding ceremony, who invite the guests for you (even those who you never wanted to invite) and determine the program for you, and those who help with the decoration etc.

He is not talking about a "preparatory course." You are right, pre-marriage preparatory courses and premarital counseling sessions do not exist in UBF. They exist in other churches. I remember that a couple who wanted to marry in UBF, but were not allowed, because they made the decision on their own instead of letting the leader arranged, left UBF and went to another church. There, they attended a marriage preparation course that lasted something in the magnitude of 3 months. In UBF, this preparation is usually replaced by an one hour extra 1:1 Bible study about the marriage of Isaac and Rebekah.
