The point you bring up here, Mike, leads us to the topic of UBF testimonies. While it seems like a good idea, testimony sharing is really fruitless and counterproductive. All it does is boost people's egos--sheep and shepherd alike--and have no real meaning for personal development. The purpose of the testimony is to track sheep's sins and indoctrinate them. There is no real struggle with God's word, only with UBF's twisting of God's word and one's ability to conform to their indoctrination.

This is in stark contrast to journaling. Journaling is the spiritual discipline of daily, written conversations with God. It's like a diary, but in the scope of writing down thoughts to and about God. It is a personal, internal record of our deepest struggles and triumphs. Testimony sharing is a superficial attempt at trying to sound like everyone else in UBF, NOT about dealing with personal sins, daily dilemmas, or long term goals, or even about just speaking with God. I think that if UBF would ever change, that would be one of the first things to go.

Tom
