The exact same thing happened to me! I got rebuked for relating passages in the OT to Jesus. Also, I got rebuked for making Jesus the focus of NT passages that the director switched into passages with OT subjects. He liked to focus on things like the importance of obeying leaders.
I know that the OT all points to Jesus. Everything in the Bible points to Christ. Perhaps it is the definitive definition of a cult to switch the topic to something "other than Jesus?"
