Subject: True Incident

For some reason I feel I should relate the following incident that took place on a missionary journey in UBF in the 1980s.

We were visiting sites in Korea and were all traveling on a bus together with Samuel C. Lee and his wife. He made us stop at a kind of hotel to take a nap so that we would be fresh for the meeting that night, I think it was at Tae Jon, possibly.

In the gift shop of the hotel, I was near Samuel H. Lee when he bought two packages of postcards, one white package and one orange backage. We all slept in one rented room boys on one side and girls on the other. Samuel H. Lee had given me the large white package of souvenir postcards as a present, which I thought was a neat thing to do.

There was no furniture in the room so we slept on the floor. I put the package of postcards Samuel H. Lee gave me on the balcony ledge because there was no other furniture other than the pillows on the floor. We got to sleep about an hour and John Jun came in and said we had to get up. Samuel C. Lee spoke up and said to John Jun something like, "Can't we sleep just a little bit more?, Please?" And everyone laughed because he sounded like a little kid who did not want to get out of bed in the morning.

I got up to retrieve my package of post cards on the ledge of the balcony and they were gone! I looked to see if they fell over the ledge and they had not. We were only two stories up. I kept looking around for them and asking people if they had seen them and then noticed that the package of cards was somehow now in Grace A. Lee's shopping bag! She noticed that I was looking at them and seemed to get agitated and with her looks and words more or less told me to just "shut up." She knew I had busted her!

I wasn't going to give in because I thought she stole my package of post cards. I wasn't about to give up my gift without a fight. So, we just kind of were staring at each other and then Samuel H. Lee gave me the orange package of postcards that he had bought to defuse the situation. So, I left it at that.

However, it always bothered me about what happened...
