Subject: Sara Barry, Authority & Responsibility

Jeremiah 23:1-4 says,

1 "Woe to the shepherds who are destroying and scattering the sheep of my pasture!" declares the LORD . 2 Therefore this is what the LORD , the God of Israel, says to the shepherds who tend my people: "Because you have scattered my flock and driven them away and have not bestowed care on them, I will bestow punishment on you for the evil you have done," declares the LORD . 3 "I myself will gather the remnant of my flock out of all the countries where I have driven them and will bring them back to their pasture, where they will be fruitful and increase in number. 4 I will place shepherds over them who will tend them, and they will no longer be afraid or terrified, nor will any be missing," declares the LORD."

UBF is a strongly authoritarian organization. Even Mark Pucekovich admitted this in a public interview. However, authority and responsibility go hand in hand. How can you demand to have authority over a person's life, telling them where to live, what to do, what occupation to have, whom you can see, and even whom you can marry and then shirk the responsibility for abuse that occurred in your self-styled authoritarian system?

It is interesting that UBF no longer even denies the abuse. Brain K.'s website publically proclaims that there is "compelling evidence." One missionary told Amy that those who were forced to have abortions "had a choice." Sara Barry says it is a matter between God and Samuel Lee. Abraham Lincoln only declares, "I don't care! I don't care!"

The dichotomy between authority and responsibility in UBF seems almost schizophrenic. On one hand the organization demands authority over members lives but on the other hand will not protect these very same members from abuse within the organization. This is un-Biblical, un-Godly, immoral, and unconscienable. It is a shame to the Gospel, Christ, and to churches that take their responsibility before God for its members seriously.

Perhaps UBF can continue with such double-mindedness, however it should at least provide prospective members with a disclaimer so that they will know that this organization that demands so much will give so little in return.
