Yes, that was the one verse they used heavily, usually at autumn conferences, but also on many other occasions.
And yes, there were many "crosses" in UBF, including many self-made crosses, and the cross of mission was the biggest one, which was equated with: taking part in all UBF programs and boring meetings, recruiting members for UBF, and training these recruits.
They also got me with that verse. With this verse they converted me to live as an UBFist.
(By the way, I had always some strange feeling about the fact that "take up the cross and follow me" or "stand up, take your bed" ended with endless meetings where we had to sit down on our chairs for hours. The body part that was strained the most were not legs, heart or brain, but the backside.)
