In reply to: PECAS 's message, "Re: The Doctrine of Testimony Sharing" on 12:44:04 12/03/04 Fri

UBF testimonies are not intended to discuss real issues.

That's part of the problem of sogam sessions.

At one time I said to "my shepherd" that after nearly 2 years of UBF, I still had the impression that I hardly knew anyone in UBF and that I wanted to make more friends.
His answer?
"You want to know the others? Listen more closely on sogam sharing. Then you will know their heart".

So, sogam sharing sessions are supposedly "the way" to get to know UBF guys, while in reality, the artificial distance between sharer and audience (as discussed by Chris already) alienated people who could be as close as a handshake. And the more uniform a sogam was, the more "gracious" it was considered, so the underlying message is: you've seen one of them, you've seen all of them.

If the basic premise which my "shepherd" made ( that sogams reveal who a person truly is ) were true, then sogam sessions are a proof that apart from their sins, a UBF member has no personality on their own.

Run, not walk, to the nearest exit!

In Christ,
Mike K.
