The black Korat quickly catches up to Tar, who snarls. Then, Malf slows slightly, both ears canting backwards. -Good job. One of them tries to follow. You wanted him dead?- The Jine snorts. -That one would've been killed anyway,- she retorts, inwardly snarling. That idiot. I don't need help. I would think they'd be intelligent enough to go for Redwood if they went this way at all, not me. She lengthens her stride, leaping gracefully over a burbling stream. Although that is the direction I'm headed. -Talking to yourself again, Tar?- The male calls, pacing himself easily. Both know that, at any time, he can catch her in seconds. -Of course. I tend to speak to the most intelligent being around, you know.- Running still at a good 80 mph, the two have already gone a good half the distance to where Tar suspects Redwood is.

Julo and Egnaro exchange silent glances. Was one of these foreigners magic, to detect their invisible approach? Apparently so. Egnaro watches a Terolian head into the trees, then the black one turn back their way. Julo blinks, shakes his head, then nods. As one, two howls erupt into the forest, scaring the diamen out of several chitters and eleis nearby. Before SF can head very far, the two Korats step in his path. "You should not have turned back," Egnaro says quietly.

The howls are heard back with the main group, and immediately Lannos and Jiol spring into a lope. The three Heifias that trailed Tar return at this moment, tongues hanging out. Jisz scowls. -I trust Malf, but not in this.- The red turns to the tan and black females. -Parat, go after them. Tasahk, aid Jiol and Lannos. Though I doubt they'll need it.- The tan nods and takes off into the forest, with the black leaping after her brother and the Heifia.

Lannos keeps his strides clipped, allowing the slower Heifia to keep up, and he glances over his muscular shoulder at his sister. -Tasahk?- The tall femme shrugs slightly, matching her brother's strides. -He does not want to take any chances, I think.- Jiol, his burly frame going as fast as possible, pants lightly, but the trio slow as they reach Julo, Egnaro, and the one Terolian after only three dozen seconds of running. The red and tan ignore their companions arrive, still calmly blocking SF's path, and agile and quick enough to continue to barricade it.

Abruptly, Malf surges ahead, reaching out a two-fingered forehand and catching Tar's haunch, sending the Jine crashing into a tree. Rolling upright again, Tar faces the Korat, defiance shining in her golden eyes. Slender Parat catches up to the pair, staying in the background silently. -Go ahead, Malf. I won't fight you. I owe you too much.- Tar's husky voice doesn't seem resigned, simply stating a fact. The black male scowls, staring at his former comrade. Like this they stay, for minutes on end, Parat becoming more uneasy by the second.
