Obitchecker:

First, sorry I got your name wrong before.

Second--as everyone on this board knows, I am a PRO-LIFE Independent with leanings towards the Democratic party. My sincere desire is for ALL abortions to end TODAY. I can't understand, with all our scientific knowledge, why there isn't a Contraceptive being made that is 100% effective! Nowadays, if a person doesn't want children, it's either get an abortion, give the child up for adoption or get sterilized for life. There is NO excuse why there isn't a SAFE contraceptive that is 100% guaranteed NOT to cause pregnancies available to those who want to use it.

As far as your friend--I am sorry that she has been so sick for most of her life. I commend her parents for their love and devotion to her, and for her care for others. But there are millions of disabled people who right now are not receiving the best in health care--but they're sure receiving huge medical bills because they don't have health insurance. One of the best things that President Obama has done was to sign the SCHIP--the Children's Health Care Insurance Program; which gives states money to help pay for children's health care. This is something that Bush REFUSED to do. Having insurance plus Preventative care will save BILLIONS every year on hospital emergency room visits by uninsured people.

I DO know a former Republican, who is now an Independent with Republican leanings. My boss was a BIG Republican supporter for Bush, but got discouraged when the Democrats won a small majority in 2006--and started to point out all of Bush's lies and fraud. In fact, my boss used to have Bush and Cheney's pictures up on his office wall. He still has a display of Ronald Reagan pics and an autograph from him and Nancy Reagan in his office. Oh, the things I used to hear from that man! I know that politics is not supposed to be discussed during work, but he made a point of discussing--only during coffee breaks--about how President Bush and the Republicans were going to transform the US of A into the best country that ever was on the face of the earth, that the Iraq war was the best thing that could happen to those 'heathens' in the Middle East, how businesses should be allowed to make as much money as they could without the Federal Government getting nosy, and that God Himself was a Republican...

But now, we all must face facts that Bush--from 2001 to January 2009, and the Republican majority--from the late 1990s to January 2007 in Congress, started this snowball effect by allowing DERegulation of big businesses and banks and allowed these 'fly-by-night' mortgage companies to make loans to homeowners who could not afford them. Since no one was keeping an eye on these businesses, no one was checking out or 'policing' these businesses, so much GREED was allowed to blossom, so many people were suckered into bad deals, and so many people got rich off the DERegulation that was rampant--but our whole economy got flushed down the toilet.

Now, President Obama is trying to do what he can to turn our economy around--and to make money you have to spend money. I don't mind paying more in taxes if it means that my son will have a better chance at learning new technology and having a cleaner place to live and not having to worry about huge medical bills if he ever gets sick. In fact, my son and a few of his friends are already looking into finding work this summer in parks around south and central Texas that will need to have buildings get fixed up and trails cleaned up. They want to work outside, make the parks look nicer, and of course, check out the pretty girls that will be visiting the parks.

Oh, I caught a bit of Rush Limbaugh's speech to the CPAC meeting yesterday, before he was given the 'defender of the US Constitution' award. He basically said that he wants the US to be the way it was when he was growing up. My translation of Limbaugh's speech is: "I want it to be like the 1950s to the 1980s, when the White people ruled and the minorities were kept in their places and had to shut up". I don't like that man's opinions or insults of President Obama and he sure isn't defending MY US Constitution! Even though he tried to be 'fair' by saying that we have to treat people like adults and that he respects any Conservative, no matter what color, he is either ignorant or refusing to face facts that we CAN'T go back to that time in history. We are now in the year 2009, we can't go back to the years of Reagan in the White House, the 'trickle down economics' and only rich and 'certain' other people decide how to run this country. I bet if he had his way, he would have all the rich own all the homes and we, the Common people who would have no choice but to rent their homes, would have to pay them, at THEIR price.

I look forward to your response, Obitchecker. If I don't have time today to respond back, I'll check with you this coming weekend.

Mercedes
