Subject: Similar, but not quite. I should stress I'd be asking for written arguments. Debating is great, but let's face it, it is only half about the arguments and half about public speaking skills....a different thing entirely.

I have seen many debates in high school, college, and in public, and very frequently you see people who obviously don't have good knowledge of the arguments but have excellent public speaking skills, and on the other hand people who obviously know the arguments but do not know how to present them in public well. As a result debates really are more often about the public speaking skills rather than the arguments. Sticking to the written argument, and to the issue of the arguments themselves (and without the complication of competing with someone else) I feel is a better way to really hone one's skills at developing arguments.

And I KNOW full well my assignments are not "original", if that's all you feel you're refuting here.
