**All were preparing to watch the auditions for Signora Carlotta's understudy, many scoffing at the idea that she should need one. Christine peers through the curtains, feeling a cold sweat upon her face. She gives a small gulp, then walks out. All go silent as she stands in the middle of the vast stage in the Paris Garnier, dressed in complete costume for Hannibal. She looks around, eyes wide with nervousness. She then glances at the pianist, preparing to play "Think of Me". Her eyes shoot back out into the auditorium. The piano begins playing, and she begins to sing in a quavering voice*
"Think of me, think of me fondly,
when we've said good-bye;
remember me, once in while,
please promise me you'll try..."
*she hears snickers from the watching ballet rats and straightens her face, concentrating hard. Her voice stops quivering and it rings loud and clear, high up to the ceiling.*
"When you find, that once again,
You long to take your heart back and be free,
If you ever find a moment,
Spare a thought for me...
We never said our love was evergreen,
Or as unchanging as the sea,
But if you can still remember,
Spare a thought for me!"
*All are shocked at what a beautiful voice had been produced from such a delicate woman, but she feels as if she had failed horribly, and ran off the stage close to tears. She ran out of the auditorium and out to the outside Opera steps. She sat down and began to weep, fear of having done horribly swelling within.*
