Subject: A sit-down

{At a Pheonix Promotion House Show, Rip and Smash call the action}

Rip: Ladies and gentlemen, this afternoon I had the opportunity and, I’ll say it, the pleasure of sitting down with one of the finest competitors in the business today, our Undisputed World Champion, NoBody.

Smash: So you were in the presence of greatness?

Rip: That’s right, Smash. This man defines greatness. We’ve got the interview on tape, and I’d like to show it now.

{The arena screen comes to life, showing Rip sitting down in an interview room. Sitting across from him, in street clothes, is NoBody. The crowd roars at this image on the screen.}

Rip: NoBody, thank you for joining me today.

NoBody: Not a problem at all, Rip. Thanks for having me.

Rip: Well, let’s get right to it. After two years making your way through the Pheonix Promotion, here you are, the World’s Champion at last. How does that feel?

NoBody: It is just the most amazing feeling, Rip. It’s weeks and weeks and months and months and years of hard goddamn work. It’s thousands of hours in that ring, busting my ass and busting guy’s heads open and hearing that crowd react. And now all that hard work, it’s all paid off.

Rip: You’ve said throughout your career as you did just now that you are completely aware of the fan reaction to your matches. How has this affected your career, how has this affected your ability?

NoBody: Well, I love to fight, Rip. I love getting in that ring and mixing it up with my opponent, and for me, it’s never mattered if it’s in front of 50 or 50,000. It doesn’t matter if not a single person is around, just as long as I get to brawl. But the fans being here night in and night out adds an energy to the match, to the brawl, that I feed on. They keep me going out there.

Rip: You weren’t always a fan favorite.

{NoBody smiles}

NoBody: That’s right. When I came into this business I just wanted to beat some ass and make a name for myself. I was starting fights with whoever walked my way. I was targeting fan-favorites so that the fans would want to see me in that ring, on the off-chance their favorites could beat my ass. I knew if the fans hated me enough, Pheonix Masters would have to keep putting me in the card, night after night. And even back then, with every single fan hating my guts, wanting to see my blood spilt, I was feeding off of that energy. If the fans love you or the fans hate you, it’s that same energy that they give off when you’re in the ring.

Rip: So what is it about you now that has the fans chanting your name every night?

NoBody: It’s respect, Rip. It’s respect. The fans realized that every day and every night I was giving each match all I had, which meant I was giving them all I had. And I started to realize that these people come to watch us every night. They spend their hard-earned money to watch us, and that in turn supports the guys and their families. I began to respect the fans who brought their own opinions to the arena, who wanted to be heard, and who wanted to be entertained. So that’s what I do night in and night out. I get to kick some ass and I get to entertain the fans. It’s a mutual respect, Rip.

Rip: Speaking of respect, you beat Phenom, your tag team partner, at Shockwave. Following that match, Phenom was viciously attacked by PhantomLord. Did that attack in any way ruin what should have been your night?

NoBody: That put a bad taste in my mouth, yes. I mean, it was Shockwave! The biggest night of the year! Phenom and I were doing what no one else has ever done. We wrestled as partners for the World Titles, we wrestled as opponent for The World Title. I had defended those tag titles and now here I was, me, in the Main Event at the Main Event going for the richest prize in the business. And I won. Phenom and I gave each other and those fans one hell of a match and at the end of it all, I had the titles, but we each had the other’s respect. And then that pussy PhantomLord tries to make a name for himself by taking out a weak and weary Phenom. So yeah, it left a bad taste in my mouth. It put a stain on what was the greatest night in my career. But what really pisses me off is what’s become of PhantomLord since that night. That boy doesn’t even have the decency to show up at Blaze and let me kick his sorry ass. That’s what gets me, Rip.

Rip: Phenom is out, hospitalized. PhantomLord will not show up at Blaze. And Nightmare has left the company indefinitely. So my final question to you, NoBody, is, as champion, who is there left for you to fight in the Pheonix Promotion?

NoBody: I’ve always been a fighting champion, Rip. I was a fighting champ when I had the Atlantic Title. I was a fighter as tag team champion. And I promised to be a fighting champion as the World’s Heavyweight Champion. My first defense is against Max Fox at Blaze this week. I’ve been told that Max actually has shown up at a Pheonix Promotions event, so I guess I will be facing him, after all. But let’s face it, Rip. Mr. Showtime Max Fox is no Phenom. He’s no Glacier. And apart from me, there are no big names left here. I’ve survived them all. Ensign Pheonix was never a real fighter, but he used to have a name for himself. Paul Maxx used to have a name for himself. But as time has shown me to be a true warrior, it’s also shown those two to be little more than a t-shirt sale. Nightmare came down to challenge me, but then just a day later he quit the company again. PhantomLord, the one son of a bitch I really want in that ring won’t show up. Yes, Rip, I’ve outlived all the greats that once walked these halls, but that doesn’t mean I won’t fight any son of a bitch who wants to get their ass kicked by the World Champion!

Rip: Good to hear, NoBody. Thanks again for your time, and good luck at Blaze.

NoBody: Thank you, Rip. I’ll see you Monday Night!
