FWD: You're already green. But are you using *revived* batteries yet?
Hi, you may not be aware that, through a newly-invented
process, "disposable" batteries can now be refilled. Like inkjet cartridges. Instead of the landfill. (i.e. Refilled, not Landfill'd)
Backgrounder: Household batteries cause up to 70% of heavy metals accumulating in landfills, according to Mountain Equipment Coop's website. Poisoning our groundwater, ultimately. The same one you and your grandkids drink. These days, there is a little bit of (old-style) industrial-style recycling going on, but that usually involved grinding up the raw materials, usually
at a cost to taxpayers or consumers. (A deposit on batteries when purchased, like bottle-deposits.)
Now, there is a better alternative to industrial-recycling! Similar to inkjet-refilling.
Photo Lithium and alkaline batteries, of all sizes, are being refilled, and sold on eBay. (Do a listing-text search for 'revived batteries') You photographers will even save 3/4 off retail prices.
Win-Win.
After the refilled photo lithium batteries are re used, they can again be sent back, for repeated revival, to trade for re-freshed 9V alkalines. Nothing is lost. Nothing is ground-up.
P.S. Even gel-cell, sealed lead acid (SLA), and automobile batteries need not be recycled, because this same process can revive these. But, the car-battery challenge can be saved for another day.
