Hello, i have never had a dog like this before that had been so abused. His family abandoned him, with a collar on him probly since he was a puppy, he is now 9-12 months old. He was running loose and would return to sit in front of his house waiting for his family to come home. He had a very large brown dried blood ring around his neck. He feared everyone, you could not get 30 yards from him. My local shelter after much persuasion gave me a cage to try to catch him, but it came down on his back and he backed out of the cage and would never go near it agian. With mine and his options geting slim, one day in the snow i noticed where he came to eat, there was a lot of blood. My last option was to hire a man that snares live coyotes, and relocates them. He said it would work because he was about the size of a coyote. My local vet was helping me, we had tried tranqulizers in his food, but that didnt work either. eight hours after we set the snare, he was caught, but this was real bad, he thrashed around biting everything he could. I contacted my local vet agian, it was after hours but he came to the yard with a tranqulizer injection, picked him up mud, blood and smell and carried him to my truck to take him to the vet. The vet said another quarter inch the collar would have been into his jugler vein, he would have not had a chance! His name is "Lucky" he now lives with me.He is so tramatized, he hides in my closet in the bathroom plastered under a shelf. He was caught on November 17, 2002. He has made alot of progress with me i think but heis loving and playful if i am on his level, like on the bed or on the floor, but the minute i stand up he gets afraid and runs back to the closet. I did find out later that his family beat him, they would stand over him and beat him. He lets me rub his belly, he romps and plays with me and my other two dogs, but if someone strange comes around he looses control of his bowels and bladder and runs to the closet. I do not take him out side yet, because he spins around tries to bite his harness and leash looses control of his bodily functions. I think he does beter daily, when i leave and come home, he now comes out of the bedroom just were he can see who is at the door and gets happy and wags his tail that i am home while my other two are at my feet. He wants me to go to the bed to pet him. and then he rubs and roots me. But i know he has a long road to recovery. But he paces the floors at night and whines alot. He seems to be worse if i have been busy and not had alot of time that day to pay alot of attention to him. If anyone out there has any sugestions, i have never had a dog like this one, i just want a better life for Lucky! Thank you so much for your time.
