(He had a sort of lost and confused expression on his face as he sat there, looking at the opposite wall and slowly sinking into a funk over his thoughts.. he had really been an asshole during his earlier years of marraige.. and no matter how much he tried to tell himself that it was the medication he had been on that had caused his distant behavior, it didnt change the fact that he felt so goddamned guilty now. He didnt deserve Kate and he knew that, but even through all those years he had loved her more than life itself.. or he would have left her back then.. his need to be alone had been countered by his need to be with her and that was what had kept him around and what had driven him insane back then. After a few moments, he looked over and saw the two of them and got to his feet.) I need some air. (He said softly, a sad tone to his voice as he slipped out of the room and went outside, standing in the misting rain and letting it hit his face as he looked up, praying to whoever would listen to let Karlie and the baby make it.. for his son's sake..)

She let out a soft breath as she watched her husband go out of the room and as if feeling that his mom was sad and his dad had left, Nick lifted his head - having caught about ten minutes of sleep which was good enough for him. His hand rose to run over his face as he looked around, looking towards the door before he pressed a kiss to his mothers cheek and stood, heading outside where his father was. Quietly he came up next to him, pulling out his engraved zippo and a cigarette - if a brain malfunction didn't kill him a little bit of nicotine wouldn't either.
