In this day and age having an audience seems really odd, but in the 60s it was common even between brothers and sisters. I have a brother 3 years younger and not only did I see him get enemas he saw me. I've posted this elsewhere previously, but when he was about 7 my mother decided that he should get an enema from the bag instead of the bulb. He put up a real fuss and mom was at her wits end. She kept telling him that it was no big deal. Finally, she saw me standing in the doorway watching and said that she'd prove to him that it didn't hurt and give me one. I didn't need one, but got one any way and didn't dare fuss about it. Later, mom made another one and he finally got it.

Maybe many feel it was no big deal to have the family watch. But what was that curiosity truly all about, that others had to watch? Glad it wasn't them? Maybe getting off on seeing others suffering? It's one thing for others to watch, it's another thing when they find it funny and laugh. When I would be on my stomach awaiting a super painful shot, it only screwed my head up more that most of the family was laughing. And even if laughing was their nervous reaction, it was still happening to me. My guess is that most humans have a bit of schadenfreude and get off on seeing someone else's pain. I wonder if they would have been laughing and making light of it if it were they laying there waiting for the 2 inch spike getting jabbed in their butt??? Hmmmmmmmmm

you are so right/NO one has a right to laugh. THE pain of a needle sunk completly in an ass HURTS so bad and STINGS so bad/IF it was there ass at that moment they would not think it was so funny. YOU have my deepest sympathy for what you went through /MY ass felt that pain I know what it felt like to be stabbed witha sharp needle and have the meds burn as well//let me know if you want totalk

Christine - I''d say it is indeed unusual for others to watch an enema these days but it does happen. I had a friend in for an endoscopic exam several years ago. I visited her the night before when she checked in to be prepped. The nurse came in and said I would have to leave. She was carrying the can and hose so it was obvious what was about to happen. My friend asked if the order was for SSE til clear and the nurse said no - just 1 enema. My friend asked if I could stay and the nurse said OK. We continued to talk while she got the enema. I found that watching this was a turn on for me. After she made her second return trip to the toilet I said I had to leave. I think my friend and I both enjoyed the event.
I went home and gave myself an enema.
