I appreciate the kind words and the poignant criticism, but I don't really give a damn. I am a die hard 49ers fan and I speak my mind. I admit that am not qualified to coach junior high school football, but that makes us even. I try to honestly appraise the Niners, not allow bias to cloud my judgment and always explore ways to improve the team (in my mind, if not on paper). I don't apologize for anything I have said.

Hey, we don't have to be best friends...we just have to be civil and respect eachother.

Let me start with the "Bengalization" of the 49ers. Fearyaks voiced this concern earlier today, but TIM responded that John York said he "will spend ALL the cap allows on players." It appears that TIM trusts York at his word, and ignores the fact that York did NOT spend ALL the cap allows this past season.

FACT: The 49ers were $3MM under the salary cap when the season began. Some players negotiated extensions over the course of the season, but that affected the 2002 cap very little...less than $1MM.

How does the saying go? "Actions speak louder than words..."

Fearyaks writes: "York said all eight assistants were offered extensions last year, and we hear most of them rejected the offers because there were few or no provisions for pay raises."

GEE! These assistants bust ass and turn a young 6-10 team into a 12-4 surprise playoff team that no one expected, and York doesn't think a raise is in order?

These aren't tea leaves. You don't have to be clarvoyant to see whats going on. Don't hold your breath waiting for a coach the caliber of Ray Rhodes being hired as the 49ers new coordinator. York is clearly a coupon clipping, KMart shopper in the world of Neiman-Marcus owners.

This much is clear:

1. York isn't going to dump Mariucci and pay him the $2.2MM he is owed for 2003 AND pay another head coach $1.5MM.

2. York isn't going to pay Mariucci's successor any more than the $2MM he is currently paying Mooch, so take Holmgren, Seifert, Shanahan, Gruden, etc., off your head coach wish list.

3. Terrell Owens' signing bonus is going to be like squeezing a drop of water out of a lump of coal. Expect fireworks and acrimony.

4. The 49ers will be sold before we ever see a new stadium in San Francisco.

Lets talk football and leave the personal stuff to another forum.
