Subject: Maybe, but how much of this is absurd or contrived?

You're right, if things don't change, they stagnate. But change for change's sake is even worse, and a lot of this smacks of that.

I've got whiplash from the massive changes in Spike. Sure, he's always been (in my book) EEEEEEVIL Spike, but a little gradual erosion to eat away at the actions of Season Five and early Season Six Spike would make a bit more sense. To change so abruptly seems, well, contrived. That, and it'll set off a firestorm between the redemptionists and their opponents that won't be resolved until next season ...

Warren and a gun. Warren is a moron, quite possibly the stupidest moron alive. HOW many times did he have this opportunity? Why not just let Buffy die from the effects of the invisibility ray? No, he and the others led her into a stupid trap, one they didn't even need to bother with. Why not pick her off from the safety of the van at the beginning of the season, or later, by himself? This option is foolish, and the supposed "buildup" to it is absurd (again, IMHO). Maybe if Warren had another plan, but to walk up and SHOOT her? When he could have done this anytime? WHY did we suffer through this season, again? For this?

Tara's death and Willow's rampage. I've said it before and I'll say it again, for Willow to "go evil" over this is, in my book, totally justified. Destroying the world? Silly, and IMHO not something she's likely to do (based on other spoilers, though, she tries), but wanting bloody revenge on Warren makes perfect sense, and were I there, I'd HELP her. As for killing Tara off, wow, just how bad a shot is Warren, anyway? Especially if the two are upstairs at the time? Great, kill Tara, heaven forbid anything happen to the schizophrenic Key ... sweet in one episode, screeching "Get out get out GET OUT!" in another (with apologies to Dawn fans, but if someone has to go, to me, Dawn's right at the top of the list, right below Spike).

I'll watch, and stay to the bitter end, but I really hope this plays better than it reads.

Take it and run.
