Subject: 1st hand Testimony

I am amazed that so many who are still in UBF are still in the dark about some of the stuff that went on in UBF. Some of you have urged that those who have first hand experience to come forward and testify. I think my father Jimmy Rhee's comments on the reformubf.org site is an act of coming forward, although I know that his motive is not to hurt Samuel Lee or anybody in UBF. I cannot tell you how much he still loves the people of God in UBF and how much he prays for them.

I am still young and idealistic and am horrified that Samuel Lee is still in leadership. I respect my father's cautious and prayerful stance the past 11 years since we've left UBF, and I am torn between 1)recognizing that my father is wise and in constant contact with the Lord through prayer and he knows what God wants him to do; and 2)my growing concern for those who are still in UBF, especially the children for whom UBF is ALL they've ever known (e.g. Wesley Jr) and the horrific damage that can be done emotionally and
spiritually to such young and pliable hearts.

I have played with many of the 2nd generation UBFers. I've changed some of your diapers. I've sung with you in CBF. I went to conferences with you. I went to school with many of you. I played in the UBF Orchestra with some of you. I have always loved and continue to love you. How can I not?

I was more fortunate that many of you in that my mother was home often and I followed my dad everywhere even to fellowship meetings and when he'd go "fishing" on college campuses. I have heard that many of you have felt neglected because you parents spend so much time with UBF ministry work, and that you have even joked about it in your Christmans drama. I am sorry that for most of you the experience of family life as God intended has been lost. I am sorry that the only family vacation you have experienced are Conferences. When I was in UBF, I was told that all these sacrifices we made were for the glory of God. However, I don't think God glories in
the pain and scars caused by children missing out on their parents' careful guidance and love and involvement instead of babysitters or kids raising each other. I think that God established the family so that we could learn the joy of relating to God as our Father.

This, of course, is my personal opinion. If it is read by parents, I urge you to love your children, as the Father loves his son. Please remember that God stopped Abraham before he could slay Isaac. Some of you have not let God stop you from putting down the knife. God has already sacrificed his one and only Son and it is meaningless to think that any of our own personal humanly motivated sacrifices will glorify God. It only glorifies ourselves. I don't mean to minimize the sacrifice that so many of the missionaries and other UBF workers have made. However, it is not our sacrifices that God wants but obedience, and that obedience is not to doing external things but to loving him and following Jesus. God would much prefer we'd just
sit in his lap and enjoy him as his children instead of acting like hired hand constantly laboring to please him.

It has taken 11 years of counseling and prayer, and I am still very broken by my experiences in UBF. I do not wish anyone else to have to go through what I went through and am still going through.

Please, seek the Lord, and let the truth be revealed. Jesus, who is Truth, will free us, and Jesus, who is Love, will cover our brokenness and wounds and heal us by the power of the Holy Spirit. Please do not fear the truth. Let all be brought into the light. We cannot fear anything if we seek the truth and for Jesus to reign as king.
