Subject: †-Listen to the trees-†

†-he took deep breaths. He felt weak, and he dropped onto he knees as he forced himself to stay attached to the earth. The sudden loss of power came over him like a wave, ebbing away. But it wasn't over. He hadn't told Shadra of the second part, the part his mother had never told him and warned him to to tell his students. 'They must see life through another's eyes, without being able to brace themselves,' she had warned him. 'Your strongest memories with go to them, like the trees and mine went to you.' He twisted in his mind the little piece of power left, but the strongest piece; his memories. Memories of times of pure joy, like when he first Listened to the treesong, or climbed the highest tree in the forest without using his wings. They were also memories of times of pain, anger, and sadness; when he was teased and picked on my the fairie children in school and when his mother had died only a few years after his linking with the trees. But the strongest emotions that had come forth from him was when he was taken, used, and treated like a slave. Just by looking at him you wouldn't be able to tell that something terrible had happened to him, but it was those times that made him the way he was. If he cried, he was beaten harder. If he fought back, he was whipped to his bones. If he just smiled , they wouldn't keep beating him, but think that he was insane and leave him after awhile. It was those times that etched the deepest upon his mind. Don't cry..Just keep smiling...Don't fight back...Just keep smiling...He thrust the cord of memories through the tree, straight into Shadra. He gritted his teeth as those memories raced through his mind, as if they were all just yesterday. "Never forget the treesong, my darling." "I don't care about the treesongs, I wish I never heard them!" "Can't you go any faster? You're so lazy, after all we do for you!" "I'm sorry sir, I'll be faster, I promise." "Stupid boy! You spilt the food! You're so clumbsy!" "I'm sorry, please don't whip me, I'll be more careful next time." "You get your own food! You're not really sick, you're faking it!" "Please, I can't get up! Please, help me." One good memory flashed at the end. It was a young girl, only about five. She smiled up at Cicel, blue orbs wide and innocent. "Cicel, you should listen to the trees. They're singing for you!" That last word seemed to echo in his mind. Pulling one hand away from the tree, he twisted it and pulled back. All his power raced back into his body at high speed, and he fainted to the ground from the force of it re-entering his body and from weariness of losing and gaining it so rapidly-†
