"CALLING WITH LOVE" INQUIRY

The Stewards today concluded their inquiry into C K Tong��s riding of CALLING WITH LOVE, particularly after the 400 Metres, in the Poplar Handicap which was run at Happy Valley Racecourse on Wednesday, 6 November 2013. Further evidence was today taken from C K Tong with evidence being taken from Mr C Fownes, the trainer of the horse. Mr Fownes was not present in Hong Kong on 6 November 2013. A written authority for Mr Fownes to represent the interests of Mr Kwok Fu Shing, the owner of CALLING WITH LOVE, at today��s inquiry was tendered.

C K Tong was found guilty of a breach of Hong Kong Rule of Racing 99 (2) and (5) in that as the rider of CALLING WITH LOVE in the stated race, he did fail to ride that horse with sufficient vigour and purpose from after the 400 Metres until the finish of the race.

The Stewards decided that the appropriate penalty was for Jockey Tong��s licence to ride in races to be suspended for a period to expire on Friday, 27 December 2013 on which day he may resume race riding. The commencement of this suspension was deferred until after the Happy Valley racemeeting scheduled to be conducted on Wednesday, 27 November 2013. During this period, there are 8 racemeetings scheduled to be conducted in Hong Kong. In assessing what they considered to be the appropriate penalty, the Stewards took into consideration a number of mitigating factors including Jockey Tong��s personal circumstances.

Mr Fownes was advised that his evidence would be noted.
