I sort of like the first one more -- the second one is good, but I think the first was directed better (the second seems rushed in key scenes, cut improperly which if they didn't rush would have looked better), and there were things which I didn't think was believable (Hagrid saying -- follow the spiders -- when he would know they would eat the children; did he want to really kill them off?).

But I think the reason I liked the first one more, is that I like the idea of all the excitement of learning magic is real, and just the joy of it all -- which in the second, it was all too old hat-- and so some of the childish joy was lost (which of course, it should be, but the point is, I like that kind of charm..) I did like it had horror elements in the second one, and I hope the third will continue with that trend.

Still, despite those two minor problems -- I noticed too many times a point where the scene cut 3 seconds too late-- I thought it was a good film, and shows itself as one of a few series of movies where the second lives up to the first, but didn't just try to redo all that was good in the first without anything new.
