Author: Rachel Clearwater
Subject: Evening shift.

The door swings open with a shortlived creak, and from the chill late evening breeze outside a young woman steps, adorned in loose jeans and a closed tan leather jacket, trimmed along the sleeves with a line of thin, frayed material strips of a shade slightly darker, short and densly packed. The collar of this cowgirl coat is pulled about the woman's neck and chin, to shield her from the cold that comes with night's darkness. Shivering lightly, Rachel Clearwater shuts the door behind her, removing ungloved hands from her pockets in the process.

The jacket is unzipped to reveal an untucked white t-shirt bearing the image of a jumping chestnut horse upon it, which the new arrival brushes a few creases out of before slinging her jacket over a coat hook at the door. Wind-ruffled black hair is taken from it's messy ponytail and quickly drawn back into a neater, tighter one, whilst the teal-eyed waitress gazes over the table where Carmel and a customer are seated.

"Hey, Carmel. Here for my evening shift."

Rachel gives a quick smile and a nod to Warren, as she heads towards the kitchens and the counter on the other side of the room. As she slips to the counter the young woman dissapears behind it for a moment, re-immerging as she pulls on a dark green apron bearing the words Old Chicago. Seeing no other customers in need, the Clearwater girl folds her arms upon the countertop and questions her fellow waitress out of idle curiosity.

"Not been too busy today?"
