Vocation? Covenant? Commitment? Following Christ? Baptismal response-responsibility???? It seems to me we easily get hung up on words. Still, words are significant. Re. vocation: The Subject index of the Catechism of the Catholic Church lists "vocation" in #'s 1, 3, 54, 542-43, 825, 836, 1694
Not one of these articles uses the word "vocation" in the English translation. #825 is a good example of what "vocation" is. "'The Church on earth is endowed already with a sanctity that is real though imperfect.' In her members perfect holiness is something yet to be acquired: 'Strengthened by so many and such great means of salvation, all the faithful, whatever their condition or state - though each in his[/her] own way are called by the Lord to that perfection of sanctity by which the Father himself is perfect.'"

What we do must be an expression of our faith. Holiness is one - integral - not a name only for our doing.

In this sense, I do not believe that my ministry is my vocation, but that baptism makes me a child of God (24 hours a day, 7 days a week)and is my vocation. My baptismal response to life must be consistant with who I am/what my vocation is. I pray that my ministry supports and is an expression of my vocation.
