Amidst a sea of faces and an ocean of sound,
Where thoughts wind like an unending web,
Kaete stands, shrouded in suspicion,
In a crowd of hundreds, Kaete stands alone...

So far as Kaete was concerned, too much time had passed since the Dragon Call had summoned all capable Riders to this Meeting place.
From her corner she could see the faces of many curious and unwitting youngsters, and she suddenly became aware of how old she truly was, and how lucky she'd been to have bonded to Eliane.
Had she decided to wait a moment longer, the chance would have passed her by - like leaves in the breeze - and left her staring after it.

A flood of warmth and love emanated from her Bonded 'little' - for Kaete would always think of her as little, no matter her physical size - and filled her heart with compassion and love.

No. She wouldn't leave the teeming masses of people that had crammed into the cave in hopes of hearing some grand and glorious speech. There was a reason they'd been called, and so long as Kaete had Eliane nearby she felt she could hide away in the shadows of her corner for another sennight.

:My dear, you are truly wonderful...:

She brushed a strand of stray hair from her line of sight and tucked it behind an ear. Had she been in her bedchamber, she would have taken the time to retie the knot of hair that rested upon her neck, but this was not the time for glamour.
What was to be said, here in the Meeting Chamber, was more important than a few stray hairs or disshevelled clothing - for now.

Should things continue to slither by at the snail's pace it had been, Kaete had resolved to leave.

Kaete didn't get a 'vocal' response, but the agreement came as clearly from the grey as though it'd been spoken.
Though the silence troubled Kaete.

:What's wrong, Lovey?:

Through the sea of faces and bright clothing, Kaete saw a flash of nearly-white fur just beyond the cave entrance and knew that Eliane still waited beyond the stone walls.

:I am concerned, Kaete,: the distinctly smooth and elegant MindVoice replied, :For I have seen neither hide nor hair of Pry-:

Kaete interrupted, :The BLUE? My dear, you musn't fret and worry over something so simple as the whereabouts of that dragon. He is nothing but a male, and males of ANY species are not to be trusted with your sock, much less your heart. Set it aside, my Bondheart, and we will find someone else for you to adore.:

Even though this did nothing to soothe the grey's troubled soul, she remained silent, knowing full-well that she'd not win an argument with her Bonded. Things just didn't work that way with Kaete.

Once again Kaete's eyes scanned the sea of faces in hopes of spotting someone with some authority, and again she saw none.

She would leave soon, if no one came.

Bring down the walls that surround me,
Tear away the mask that has hidden my life,
And maybe you'll find the true me
Somewhere inside the impenetrable castle of of my heart...
