Subject: UPDATE 1600hrs

Provided the information we received from Acme in regards to their existing network we were able to easily suggest some numerous, yet logical upgrades. It is apparent that the current network hardware needs to be brought up to current standards. Modifications and upgrades will be necessary. These modifications include outfitting all offices with new, up to date wiring and network hardware. We performed a cost analysis of different products on the market and matched the right products with the needs of the company. The efforts that were made to conduct the cost analysis should prove to be well worth it when considering the volume of hardware that is going to be purchased. The CNS Group firmly believes that giving great detail to the components that make up a network will lead to it’s inevitable success and stability.

Once the updated wiring and hardware are put into place we can begin to setup each location with it’s respective file and print servers along with any other necessary network operating systems. We will try to keep this massive systems upgrade as painless as possible for the existing employees. The existing operating systems that the users are accustomed to will stay in place at they’re respective locations. For example, the Macintosh operating system in place at the Toronto office will remain there. The Windows users in the Germany and U.S. offices will only be subjected to an upgrade to the Windows 2000 distribution of the Microsoft Windows operating system platform. All of these platforms provide terminal connectivity services. This will enable all computers within the corporation to connect to the mainframe in Reinmein, Germany. This wonderful ability comes to the company with absolutely no extra cost and will provide additional functionality to the average computer. We identify using terminal emulation as a much more cost effective approach to mainframe connectivity than any other scheme that would include the use of dumb terminals. The logic that drives this decision is that you already have a PC in front of every user, so why not use this resource to it’s fullest extent. Remote administration is very important when you have a company that branches out as far as this company does geographically. The mainframe system in Reinmein can be both administered and monitored from any terminal window within the company. All Windows users can be administered globally from wherever a network administrator might have a presence.

After analysing the needs of the individual departments we settled on recommending the following for the users in each of those departments. First off the executives and the outside sales personnel should be equipped with laptop computers. This would also be recommended for any other employees who will travel a lot and need to be furnished with a mobile computing solution. Laptops can also be provided upon request when deemed necessary. For our customer service representatives and other inside personal a desktop PC would be sufficient.

All offices will be outfitted with one file server and one print server for every 50 employees. Each file server will utilize disk mirroring for redundancy purposes. The file server will also have a tape backup device attatched to it to provide some form of disaster recovery. Tape backups can be scheduled to run daily, during late night hours when server utilization is down to a minimal.

Once the network is in place and the users are all situated we can easily offer our services in a long term plan to monitor and maintain the computer network. Being that all necessary provisions have been made by the CNS Group for further network and operating environment enhancements we would be prepared to alter, update, and optimize this corporations network structure with simplicity. It gives me great pride in offering our services as a long term provider for Acme and this offer should reflect the CNS Group’s confidence in it’s work.
