A good start is Adobe Premiere 6.0 however, this program is very expensive as my bank account found out recently. A freeware utility for pulbishing the finished videos is virtualdub which, if you go to Sam's FAQ page he has a link to. Also, he makes other recommendations for audio and video processing.

The best thing to do, if you have nothing is to get yourself a (capture card / DVD drive) whatever your system will like I say this because I was going to get a DVD but I lacked the physical space. Once you get the hardware, you'll notice a nice package of sotware with it. In most cases just use this, You'll get much more accurate tech support doing it this way.
