Subject: How do you know they have your password?...
In reply to: Kate 's message, "Ford and my email" on 04:17:09 06/10/02 Mon

Just because people at Ford are getting emails that look like they are from you (when you didn't send them) doesn't mean that someone has your password.
This is what might be happening,, I will give an example of what happened to me last week.

I have an email pen-pal who lives in Canada, she has a friend that moved to Korea. I have never emailed or had any contact with the friend in Korea.
So last week I get an email infected with the Klez virus from the girl in Korea (I knew her name, so I knew it was her) so I emailed her back to let her know she may have a virus and to check it out. She emailed me back to say she hasn't got my email address anywhere on her computer and hasn't even turned her computer on in weeks.
When I checked the properties of the email ( do you know how to do this?) I found that the email hadn't come from her at all, it had actually been sent from the computer of my penpal in Canada and it was her that has the virus, she has both of our emails in her address book.
This virus goes to the address book and selects two email addresses, one goes in the sender box and one goes in the "to" box.
So what I am saying is that someone out there has a virus, they have your email address and Fords email address in their address book. The virus is sending emails to Ford with your address as the sender, but it is actually being sent from the first infected computer. The only way to find out who it is, is for Ford to check the properties of the email. The first address shown on the list is the person who's computer actually sent the original infected email.
Has someone at Ford contacted you about it? is this how you found out? Ask them to forward one of the emails on to you so that you can check it out. If you use Outlook Express, right mouse click on the message in your inbox and then select "properties" you will see the origintaing email address at the top of the page it gives you. You can then contact that person and let them know. Remember, they may not even be aware that they have a virus so don't get too mad at them!

Sorry this is so long, and I hope it wasn't too confusing. But don't panic yet and change your password or email, you may not need to.
Good luck!
