Spike,
This is dated info because we returned from the island two weeks ago, but it may help. We caught several drum in the 25" to 28" range using fresh cut mullet fishing just after low tide. As always, we fished where we found the best sloughs and holes, mostly after the second "turtle detour" going North. Our best hole was 8/10ths of a mile past this detour. Had no luck South, but that can change with the wind. Tried fishing the new inlet but there was too much grass.

The drum hit within an hour of the change from low to rising tide, which was a definite change from previous trips when we have had our best luck about an hour before high tide.

The small blues will annoy you because they will mess with your bait no matter what you throw out. Heard lots of stories of guys catching 50-75 drum on cut and finger mullet at the North Point over several days, but most of them were diehards who stayed up there all day and wouldn't return to the cabins until very late if at all. Also, you will have to cross about 6" of water three times and only at low tide.

FYI, I watched two guys pull in 6 nice drum within an hour in the hole in front of the "public showers" at the cabins, again just after low tide.

Hope this helps. Good luck!
Bole
