Clearly Böcker did. 2nd Lt. Brandon RFC attacked the airship for twenty minutes. He states that he fired at every available opportunity, but although he saw his shots bursting all along her body, the airship did NOT take fire.
After this combat, Böcker saw his airship rapidly loosing gas and height and began to jettison everuthing possible overboard. He went out to sea at West Mersea at a quarter past one, but realising the hopelessness of his plight he came back and brought his ship to earth in a field between Little Wigborough and Peldon. There she took fire, but owing to the great loss of gas she was not badly burnt.
It is clear that Brandon's bullets did not start the fire as he had broken of the fight to long before that. So Böcker seems quite obvuous.
Best from Johan
