I guess most of the boys that grew up in those fabulous times tried either Indian cigars or rabbit tobacco at one time or another. I had an uncle that was given either poison ivy or poison oak to smoke once. He was told that it was rabbit tobacco and he went at it. Its a wonder it didn't kill him but he was fortunate to only take one or two puffs. His head swole up big time and some kids got into some awful trouble over that nasty trick. By the way, I never used a catalpa worm to fish with. Those things looked right mean to me and I surely would never bite the head off one and turn it inside out as Kent suggested (nor did he as far as I know). I did, one time, talk my little brother into biting the head off a corn worm while we were shucking corn out on the back porch. Got myself in a little trouble over that but it was too good an opportunity to let pass. I still kid him about it from time to time.
