Well, in the defense of the police, they really didnt have a choice but to open fire on the gunman. The guy was trying to get away after killing his ex-coworker in cold blood at point blank range (it was revenge, the guy blamed him for losing his job last year...i mean, seriously, we all hate our bosses sometimes but 5 shots to the head is a little extreme, ha? Poor fellow was only 41 years old) Anyhow, so after shooting the guy outside of their old office in broad daylight, the gunman tried to walk away, police were alerted and as they were following him, he turned around and drew his gun at them. He didnt fire but at that point, the police had no choice but to open fire on him before he does. Of course it's a little dangerous to say the least when it's rush hour in one of the busiest parts of NYC!!! They are saying that most of the injuries were bullet fragments that ricocheted off the sidewalk but still....if i were any of those people, i would sue the heck out of the city for this one, they are going to get a nice little sum of money for this one. Thank Gd none of the bullet wounds were life threatening. as for the gunman, i think he never intended to open fire on the police, he drew his gun to provoke them into shooting him, he wanted to commit suicide by being shot by cops. Quite a disturbed individual. And guess what, he purchased his gun in Florida, not in NY. Most of the guns ppl have in this city are from out of state, you cannot buy a gun here, gun laws are pretty strict. I shake my head at people who think they should loosen the gun laws here, its beyond ridiculous, how many people need to die for them to realize that if anything, they should make gun laws even stricter. I personally think only the police and military should be armed, everyday citizens should not be allowed to possess weapons, even of hunting variety. I know it's extreme but that's truly how i feel, the more i read about this stuff and the Aurora movie theater killings, it just makes more and more sense to me.....
