Angelina Jolie Treats Pax To Hours and Hours on a Plane, Plus One Night in A Five-Star Hotel in Australia

By Jenny Paul on August 2, 2013 |

So why then if as a young, energetic adult I found the journey gruelling, did Angelina Jolie force her son Pax, 9, to sit with her while she flew from Tokyo (where they’d been with Brad plus Knox and Vivienne promoting World War Z after flying there briefly from Los Angeles) to Sydney, staying a total of twenty-four hours before flying back to the United States again on Thursday?

If Brad and Angelina want to fly around the globe non-stop for work projects then that’s up to them, but I’ll never understand why they drag their young kids away from the comforts of home when all they see when they get to said country is the inside of yet another five-star hotel.

Jetlag’s not fun at any age and the risk of deep vein thrombosis plus all the germs that mooch around in aircraft air-conditioning systems can’t be doing their young bodies any good.

If a parent’s only free time in their diary where they can squeeze in quality time with each of their kids is when they’re flying long-distance, or if they’re bringing a child along for company on the long journey, then it’s time for them to re-evaulate where their priorities lie.

Angelina was Hollywood’s top earning actress last year and pulled in an estimated $33 million between June 2012 and June 2013, and yet she’s busy preparing to “direct” a second film, this time one called Unbroken - which she starts shooting in Hawaii this week.

I suspect this flying trip to Australia was something to do with that and, given that Angelina’s directing skills are flimsy at best, the fact that she’s forcing young Pax to come along for the ride of what is quite patently a vanity project is pretty shoddy.

It’s not like this is a one-off or a family holiday where they actually explore a country and create everlasting memories (like an African safari, for example), the only time we have ever seen Brad or Angelina in recent months is when they’re stepping on or of a long-haul flight for work with a couple of selected rugrats in tow.

What happened to kids having summer holidays filled with long lazy days playing at the local park, riding bikes in the woods or picnicking by the sea?

It’s not like she’s a single parent who HAS to work and reluctantly takes her kids with her everywhere she goes because she can barely afford to feed them let alone spring for childcare.

If she and Brad want to have careers and spend whole days at a time inside aeroplanes in the pursuit of them then fine, but leave the children at home with their siblings and the comfort of a regular routine, uninterrupted healthy sleep and nutritious home-cooked meals rather than plane food is my advice.
