Subject: Rear suspension set up on a 1971 Ventura II

I found and installed a ford 9" from a mid seventies Granada. It was 1 1/2" narrower than the stock rearend.

The mounts/perches set just 1/4" off on both sides. I mounted the rear with Competition Engineering J-bolt traction bars, 50/50 Pete & Jakes shocks (moved inhoard), and had to minitub the inner fenders for tire clearance. With the 8.5" centerlines with 5" back space the 275/60/15 BFG dragradials rubbed to much. Now I can run a 11.5-12.0 section width. With the 3.70 trac-loc and conservative launch I was getting 2.0 60' times.

Engine 400 pontiac, TH350 w/10" TCI converter, and the 3.70 gear.

I was limited to shifting at 5000 rpm's due to poor fuel delivery with the 5/16 factory fuel line. On the first pass the car actually sucked the carb dry in 3rd gear. I raised the float levels and short shifted two more passes. Both passes were 13.60 @100.62 and 100.60 mph.

Needless to say with the present combo and proper fuel delivery as well as an aggressive launch should net some high 12's in the spring!!!!! Good luck to all, "Goblin"
