molly rings and clevite race bearings.
melling high volumne oil pump and pick up
steal not brass freeze plugs and all oil galley plugs
this should set you back roughly $2000.00 for the short block and machine work. with the occassional swap meet
purchase.
next will be the cylinder heads, cam and intake, carb and finally they ignition.
first this is where you'll get your most bang for the buck
if you want more power, spend more money on your cylinder heads.
ie.if all you can aford is 700.00 than the L31 late model truck vortec head makes good power.but if you can step up to about $1500.00 than the AFR 210 or 220 race ready is the one for you.you'll make about 50 to 70 more hp with these heads.
the camshaft is also the biggy in power and ultimate combonation maker.for a budget a flat tappet solid is the perfect choice.for more power use a solid roller.
intake is either a victor jr. or super victor with a holley hp950 carb.both can be found on the internet or at your local performance swap meet.
and finally the ignition-large cap hei w/msd 6a conversion
msd coil,and msd wires.
from here you'll need at least a thm350 race preped and a 4000 stall converter. to transfer the torque to a 8.5" 10 bolt with mosier axles and 4.10 gears
and finally a nos big shot system
this will bet you into the nines.with little or now trouble
