Copper Dreams, Midnight Angel, and Secrets Can Kill (amung others) suffered from starvation. No grass grew here, the little vegitation was brown and mingled with mud and manure. The horses should move to avoid death from starvation. OOC - the horses will be okay, they simply can't stay here because the food is gone. There are many horses living here, and surviving off of the grass. After a while, the grass will dissapear. This can be illustrated by keeping multiple horses in a pasture without moving them off . . . the pasture will eventually turn to mud.
