Hey! GLAD you're back! Sorry about the link... was it the BoardRoom you found? 13922? It is through their board, that I found the free boards. There have been some really good conversations over there. I visit 4 regularly, and stop by a couple others now and then to put in my two-cents worth.
As you can tell, the US GOV issues didn't seem so important after you left, although I still think this site is a good idea. There are things about our government that beg attention. And, even though some do effect Afghans, I really just don't believe discussing them at the Afghan boards is condusive to what they need now.
Some have said, "Afraid to remind Afghans of what you have done?". No! I feel that Afghans are well aware of how they feel. It is us that have few clues! And until WE understand what happened, we cannot hope to help them.
Right now, their thoughts need to be on the future of their country, not the past. And, I guess, since we are, obviously, thought of as superior, we need to be thinking about both! I hope that all will, at least, monitor our discussions there. I have no intent to exclude anyone.
I am going to inlcude the footer on this page, on all my future posts. I hope that you regulars aren't too bothered, but I want to be sure that new readers have access to all of our discussions.
I hope that Afghans can learn from our discussions of our problems and avoid the same mistakes we have made.
And on US POLICIES, I hope that we can get some conversations going on some of these things we keep hearing. I will admit that I have a hard time believing that we could have let some of these things happen, but I have seen the proof of it happening in our past and feel it is our responsibililty to address these issues and expose them for their falsehoods or their truths. I'd love to see mo... and Jake join us, but I think we can get this started just fine without them!
I haven't had much free time lately, but I have ideas for a few more provacative posts. Maybe if we each (you, max & I (and anyone else reading and wanting to get involved)) take a subject and research it, then bring it back and share it, we can get this off and moving toward understanding.
1) HOW and when did the US get involved in Afghanistan, in the 1st place. Were we involved with the USSR's occupation? Did we know that we were bringing extremists into the picture when we put out requests for Muslim volunteers?
2) What is it that needs to be done differently in regards to the US Foreign Policy? How can we prevent issues such as this as having any footing in the future? This may need to be broke down into individual countries, and where does one begin? It would be ideal to find a representative of other countries to address this with us. Maybe we could visit boards from various countries and ask for input on their opinions of the US Foreign Policy towards their countries.
3) ENRON: Just what is going on here? What are all the sides? Do we have gov officials involved in this mess? What can we do to safeguard ourselves against these kinds of things? What steps should be taken now? Should those who benefitted from Enron be responsible to those who are suffering because of it?
4) How fair is the US Gov. There are many who say there are much better. What are those govs? How are they better? What problems lie within our system that need to be addressed, that these other systems have solved?
5) An obvious issue is our political contribution practices? How can this be addressed?
6) What about Bush’s involvement with any of the C-Theories? Does anyone feel so strongly about this that they want us to disucss it more? Has anyone found any real proof?
7) And what about Hemp Legalization? Both in the US and around the world. I will take this one, as I am already researching it. I think this is a good place for a lengthy discussion on the subject, as our own country is battling with this now, too, and it is already here!
Got any other ideas? Let’s get talking about these things so that we can understand and be of much more help to those who our policies have affected. We are good people, us AMERICANS, and we cannot have the selfish motives of any individuals blackening our repputation. We must understand and conquer, as corny as that sounds.
