Subject: Time to Vent: Celine Dion's Bastardization of "I Drove All Night"

While there are many things to complain about when thinking about what is currently being played on the radio and on TV (Creed's "One Last Breath"; Kid Rock's "Picture"; Bon Jovi's...well, *anything* by Bon Jovi is worth complaining about), the one thing I have to comment about is Celine Dion's incredibly awful rendition of "I Drove All Night."

"I Drove All Night" (Kelly/Steinberg) became a Top 10 Hit in 1989 when performed by Cyndi Lauper. It might be Lauper's best recorded vocal performance that I can think of - when you listen to it, all you think about is sex; all Lauper wants to do is get to her man and have sex with him. That's a beautiful thing.

However, unable to leave that precious little moment of pop music history alone, Celine Dion and her bevy of producers/managers/agents/publicists/etc. have decided to use the song to accompany a...car commercial. Get it?... Drove all night...car commercial...brilliant! One can only hope that the tinny, lame, pseudo-electronica musical backdrop that accompanies Celine's clueless vocal performance will cause someone on the road to lose all control of their vehicle and, if the stars happen to be aligned, crash into Celine and her 80-year old husband. One can only hope.

Time to Vent Honorable Mention:
The Dixie Chicks' version of "Landslide."
What a cheap, easy way to get more mindless drones to buy your entire album of crap - cover one of the most popular songs of all time. "Landslide" *is* Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham - if you ain't them, don't record and release it.

This is all for now.

If anyone else feels like venting about something they are sick of, please use this space to do so.

Kevin
